Researcher and designer working at the intersection of material sciences, mechatronics, tangible computation and on-device machine learning.

Affiliated researcher at the MIT Media Laboratory, Tangible Media Group, and senior designer at the Design Intelligence Lab, MIT School of Architecture.

Following a PhD on human-machine creativity at INRIA in 2007, supervised by Wendy Mackay, his work at MIT turned from 2008, in Hiroshi Ishii's group, toward the interaction between new programmable materials, the natural environment, and human and non-human creations — living, like biomes, or artificial, like robotic agents at micro and nano scale.

Radical Atoms, co-authored within the Tangible Media Group, marked a turning point in the field. That way of approaching tangible interfaces with dynamic materials led to further work integrating biomaterials and programming at those scales, at the interface with robotics, materials science, electronics, physics and biochemistry — BioLIG at UIST 2025, and programmable electrowetting of liquid metal in Advanced Materials.

In parallel, at the MIT Design Intelligence Lab, he has explored how language models lead to new physical interactions and generative user experiences. Large Language Objects, co-authored in 2024, and projects shown at TEI and NeurIPS, prefigure how we will physically interact with AI once world models are part of daily life.

He teaches regularly in university HCI contexts — MIT, UC Boulder, École des Mines — and in art and design schools in interdisciplinary ones — ZHdK, FH Potsdam. He publishes with MIT Press and has exhibited at the Palais de Tokyo, MoMA, and the 2025 Venice Biennale.
